OBITUARY - March 24, 1905.
Frances Powers Harman was born in Springfield, Ohio, Dec. 9, 1811, died March 13, 1905, aged 93 years, 3 months and 4 days. She was united in marriage to Jacob Harman in 1836. With her husband she moved to Vermillion county, Illinois, in 1838, to Crawford county, missouri, in 1839 and came to Iowa, in 1855. She was the mother of ten children, six sons and four daughters. Six of these children and her beloved husband had preceded her to the better world. Three sons and one daughter still survive her. She was a model wife and a loving mother, and now her surviving children arise and call her blessed. She was converted to Christ when about twelve years old and united with the M. E. church of which she remained a faithful member till the Blessed Saviour came to take her home to the church above. She was the last of the charter members of the Sheridan M. E. church to cross the river, and we feel certain that those who had gone before to the other side, were there to meet her and to give her a hearty welcome to the glory land.
Owing to the loss of sight and physical inability she had been deprived of the privileges of the sanctuary for several years, but she continued steadfast in the faith and died in peace to go to worship God in his Temple in heaven forever.
The funeral services were held at the Sheridan M. E. church Wednesday March 15, conducted by her pastor Rev. Montgomery, the sermon being preached by Rev. Phillips, her former pastor. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Sheridan cemetery.
"She hath gone to her home, for the eventide
Is come, and her toils are o'er.
She hath gone where her partner and babes abide.
And she never will leave them more."
